How To Pick the Right Doormats for Your Company’s Space

How To Pick the Right Doormats for Your Company’s Space

When selecting a doormat for your commercial space, there are a few factors to consider if you want to make sure it fits your needs perfectly. Doormats serve a functional purpose: they keep spaces clean. However, you also need to ensure that they fit comfortably into your existing spaces. Fitting can mean literally fitting into your spaces, or it can mean conforming to your specific aesthetic style.

These factors and more contribute to you knowing how to pick the right doormats for your company’s space, making sure they both naturally fit and serve their intended purpose. Pick your mats carefully; you don’t want something that’ll get in the way more often than not.

Make Sure You Have an Appropriately Sized Mat

Doormats come in all kinds of different shapes and sizes, whether you need an extra-large rectangular mat or a small circular one. It’s essential to know the specific parameters of your business’s space to make sure you get the right-sized mat the first time.

If you need a mat for a wide-open commercial doormat for your space, you may need to get a mat that is larger than average. This will ensure you cover the greatest amount of ground possible. But that same extra-large mat, if you need to place it in a smaller room inside your building, can take up too much space.

Placing a large mat in a comparatively smaller space can cause it to wrinkle, potentially creating tripping hazards. Conversely, placing a small doormat in a space that calls for a bigger one, such as at your building’s entryway, may not clean off the soles of visitors’ shoes adequately enough.

Measure twice, cut once, as the saying goes. Know the exact space you need to cover and what it’ll take to properly cover that space.

Choose a Thickness That Will Benefit the Space

You don’t just have to think about how much space a mat takes up, but you must consider the thickness as well to get a truly comfortable fit. When you place a mat in front of your door, the thickness can affect how easy or difficult it is to open that door.

If the mat is too thick and the material stands too tall, it can offer resistance if someone tries to open that door. But with less thickness, that same door will have no trouble opening. Increased thickness can also cause a tripping hazard if passersby don’t immediately notice how tall the material is.

Make sure that you fit the appropriate thickness to your doorways; if you have the clearance to place a thicker mat, and the environment calls for it, don’t hesitate to go for it. But you must always be aware of how it will affect doorways around you and whether people have an increased risk of tripping.

Be Aware of Whether It’s an Indoor Mat or an Outdoor One

Knowing whether you need an outdoor or indoor mat can save you a lot of grief in the long run. If you need an outdoor business entry door mat for your building’s entryway or an indoor mat between rooms and offices, that will require you to purchase a specific mat for your needs. Outdoor mats require sturdier material; this ensures that they can stand up to the elements over long periods of time.

Placing a weaker, indoor mat around your building’s exterior will only cause it to deteriorate faster, falling apart and no longer functioning as you need it. Whether your mat needs to stand up to rainfall, snow, wind, intense and constant sunlight, or constant foot traffic, the best outdoor doormat for your company’s space will live up to the task.

Alternatively, having an indoor mat requires less durable material, as it only really needs to put up with foot traffic. Indoor mats can get away with less durable and thinner materials unless you specifically need a sturdier commercial doormat for your space.

Pick the Best Material for Your Mat

Mats can come in several different materials, but usually it falls into either rubber or fabric mats. Both materials provide their own benefits and specific uses; for fabric, that’s more for general use. One of the most common uses for fabric mats is to allow guests into your building a way to clean off their shoes.

Giving them that option prevents them from bringing dirt and grime into your building. But rubber mats can allow for greater traction when dealing with slippery surfaces. If you have spaces that have tiles, rubber mats can give your employees that extra grip they need to avoid slipping and falling.

Ensure that you have the best mat for the space, as fabric mats perform best if you need to clean shoes and rubber when you need to guarantee traction.

Make Sure It Aesthetically Fits Your Business Space

When you incorporate doormats into your building, whether inside or outside, it’s always preferable to make them match aesthetically with your design. Sometimes that can mean keeping it simple, so it fades into the background, but other times you may want it to match your branding.

Commercial logo mats allow you to make your doormats fit into your business space, allowing them to fit into your company’s design and maintaining a professional look. Having a mat that stands out or doesn’t fit with your overall design can seem like an eyesore.

While it may have no bearing on whether it is a functional mat, it does interfere with your company’s professional appearance. Make sure you have something that not only functions but also looks like it fits into the space you put it.

Get the Mats You Need for Your Building

When you need to pick a commercial doormat for your company’s space, be aware of the different factors you must consider. Whether you need to place it inside or outside, or you need a non-slip surface or one that traps dirt, always know what you need your mat for. Always strive to keep a clean work area and maintain a cohesive look when implementing doormats into your professional spaces. Mats don’t only serve to keep your company’s building clean but they are also an opportunity to reinforce your branding and keep work areas aesthetically coherent.
